The beautiful Venice can be reached in 25 minutes by car or, more comfortably, with 20 minutes by train (the Santa Lucia train station is in the city center). From here you can proceed on foot through the streets and squares, or by boat that runs along the Grand Canal, up to the classic destinations: Rialto Bridge and San Marco. Here the scenery is truly wonderful, the Piazza is a large living room defined by striking monuments: the Basilica with the Byzantine domes, the Palazzo Ducale, splendid Gothic architecture, and the long porticoes of the Procuratie where the Correr, Civic Museum and home to important temporary exhibitions, and the Marciana Library, which collects ancient manuscripts and incunabula.

Treviso, a delightful medieval town surrounded by 16th century walls, is a quarter of an hour’s drive away. City of water at the confluence of two rivers, dashed by Dante in the famous verse of the Comedy “… where Sile and Cagnan s’accompagna …” and where even today the Ponte Dante seals one of the most striking views. The historic heart is Piazza dei Signori, which overlooks the fourteenth-century Palazzo della Signoria.

Very pleasant is the walk through the alleys to see the Loggia dei Cavalieri, the Casa dei Carraresi, home to prestigious art exhibitions, the medieval churches of San Francesco and San Nicolò and the Pescheria with the enchanting houses on the water.

The evidence of the ancient Altino, a thriving Roman commercial center of the first century AD, one of the most important in the Upper Adriatic, can still be seen today in the important archaeological site less than 10 minutes from the Hotel Borgo Cà dei Sospiri, which is at the National Archaeological Museum where interesting objects of daily life and grave goods of the time are collected.
